From wence I came….

17 Nov

Good morning dolls! So, as I was flipping through pictures to delete from my digital camera, I found a picture from about a year ago.

Dolls, that’s my hair about 12 to 14 months ago! Now check out this picture that I took on Saturday after my hendigo/cassia treatment.

Just in case you don’t get it yet….

Are y’all seeing this?!?!? My hair is so moisturized and BIGGER! Granted my curls are a little more relaxed, but the henna has made such a difference with how manageable my hair has become. It’s so healthy and strong. I hope these photos inspire someone out there, because they sure do inspire me!

Dust off your hats, dolls! We’re going to a royal wedding!

My last length check! Holy Sh*t! My hair is growing!

8 Nov

So, this post right here is for the hairdresser that told me my hair wont grow much longer than where it was because it’s natural….BOOYAH!

Wow, I am really really proud of my hair right now! The reason why I have been out of commision for the past few days and Sherica’s been holding it down here at SPGD, is because I have been feverishly helping my very good friend/sister from another mother, Brittany get ready for her wedding! Well, as I am sure you can imagine, Brittany’s hair stylist took one look at my very proud afro puff and said “I can’t do anything with that”….I smiled politely and said no prob, lady! And took my gorgeous afro puff elsewhere! Ms.Beverly, my hairstylist at Regis in International Mall here in Tampa Florida, HOOKED ME UP! She always does. I have been going to Ms.Beverly for over 5 years now and she’s awesome. She keeps my hair healthy and manageable and understands what products will keep my hair healthy and shiny and what products just won’t cut it. Anyway, 3 and a half hours after sitting in the salon chair, the results were amazing. My coils were straightened out, not a fairy knot in sight and it was SO shiny! I will not be pressing my hair for a very long time after this, but it was cool to compare my last press 2 years ago to this most recent one! Take a look!

Me trying to be rihanna...with NATURAL HAIR! *rolling eyes*

Me being myself, with long hair! YAAAAAY! BSL, Here I come! 🙂

So, there you have it dolls! No matter what those clueless hair dressers tell  you, long hair is possible. All it takes is patience and a little TLC for your hair. It was really cool to really see my progress and I can’t wait to do this again next year to see if I am at BSL length by then! I am hoping to reach and maintain BSL by next spring…let’s see if I can do it! I’ll keep you guys posted. Until next time, stay gorgeous, dolls!

This is gonna take some of my 80’s babies back to when we were little kiddies in the early 90’s.  This song came out when I was still in elementary school (when I didn’t know what the hell they were singing about anyway lol).  I love and have a deep respect for old school joints so expect more oldies but goodies from me in the future :-).  So get your door knockers, bicycle shorts, and rope chains ready, and prepare to be taken back lol.  Our throwback jam for today is “He’s Mine” byMokenstef!  haven’t heard anything from the group since this hit, but the song itself is definitely a classic!    Click here to view video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1uayIkqhj4

What Will You Use in Your Fight Against Dry Winter Hair?

5 Nov

Okay, so I seriously need some help y’all!  No I don’t mean mental assistance ( I’m naturally out of my mind so there’s no getting out of that), I mean in fighting dry hair for the cool weather that’s coming in.  As you all know, I’ve already been going through some things in the dryness department and clearly can’t solve the problem by using the same products in winter that I’ve used in summer and spring.  Granted we’re in Fall now, and though it’s not freezing here in Florida, the change in the weather is still drying out my curls.  *sigh*  How do you retain moisture in your curls during the cold weather?  What will be changing in your regimen to accommodate for the cooler months that await us?!

Rain, Rain Go Away…

5 Nov

Hey Dolls, Boy have I got a hair story for you!  So we all know about me holding on to the very last-minute till I finally wash my hair.  Well today that idea has finally come back to bite me right in the ass!  Last night, I did small twists on the front section of my hair using Kinky Curly custard and Cantu shea butter (knowing good and well I have yet to master a good twist out in my hair) and finished the look by doing 3 cornrows towards the back of my head.  My plan was to take out the twists the next morning for a curly bang and pull up the rest of my hair into a mid-high curly afro puff.  When the next morning finally came, this is what I got…..

It wasnt the exact look that I had in mind but I decided that it wasn’t that bad either.  So I rocked the doo anyway. The twists up front that I unraveled in order to reveal a curly bang just fell flat (like I knew they would), AHHHHHHH LORD JUST GIVE ME ONE GOOD TWIST OUT IN MY LIFE lol!!!!!!!!!  Unfortunatley, I wasnt getting off that easy.  Because as soon as I stepped outside it started raining for the 100th time this morning!  leaving me with this…..

Basically the rain did a “poof be gone” to whatever curls I did have!  Ugh, I’m probably just gonna start the hair washing process tonight.  Starting with some shampooing, a well needed apple cider vinegar rinse and conditioner, followed by a deep conditioning treatment.  I ‘ll just leave in the deep conditioner overnight (though I hate sleeping with wet hair)! I have a wedding coming up this Saturday that I’ll be attending so I’ll be trying a perm rod set on my hair for the first time. Wish me luck my lil N.D’s.

The proof is in the products….My 3 day affair with twistouts.

3 Nov

No, I am not driving, talking on the phone and taking pictures. I am at a stop light, ok? lol

So, I had been rocking twists for a week, moisturizing with cantu shea butter, kinky curly gel and qp mango butter. After a week of twists, I opted for a twist out, moisturizing daily with Oyin Juices and berries. They held up so well, dolls! I rocked a pinned up side look Sunday and Monday. As it got fuzzy on Tuesday, I pilled up both sides. It’s looking nuts now, so I am wearing it in a ponytail. But my hair feels so soft and healthy right now! I have to wash and press it on Friday for Brittany’s wedding, as she wants us to have specific coifs. So I’ll post pictures of that too! But check out my photos!

My second family, Brittany, Brooke and Mom, Christy!

Day two, the twists are still there! I slept on a satin pillow and fluffed when I woke up!

Day three, my curls are frizzy, but still intact

I stole these glasses from my friend/adoptive sister Brittany. We’ve been friends for about 4 years now, so she knows I’m a bit of a klepto with things I love…lol! Anyways, Saturday was a full day. Jeff and I had to attend a funeral and then I had to go to Brittany’s bachellorette party. FULL DAY! I work similar hair styles, but changed my look to something more appropriate for the funeral and something more sassy for the bachelorette party. Check me out!
